For the first part of my life I was not very close with my father. In fact I was very terrified of him. I knew all the sounds that his car made and when I heard them, It was bed time for me. It didn't matter if somehow he had miraculously come home before it was dark.
If I asked my mother for something I was in desperate need of and she suggested that I ask my dad, I would completely forget about it and tell myself I would be fine without it.
When I was in grade 8, I had 2 pairs of dress shoes only. One pair was black and the other was grey. At my high school it was mandatory to wear black shoes, no other color was acceptable. My Black shoes obviously had been worn more times than I could count and they were starting to fall apart. I asked my mother for new shoes and she said go ask your dad, he just got paid. Well because I was so afraid of him, I decided that it would be fine and I would just continue wearing the same torn shoes. My shoes had holes at the bottom, so I made in-soles out of cardboard. Finally the entire bottom of my shoe fell off and my mother was out of the country. I still could not ask my father. A friend volunteered to let me borrow a pair, too bad he was a few shoe sizes smaller and my big feet were not going to fit. I walked home that day without shoes and ran into my father who then asked why and I explained that I didnt have shoes, so we went and got me a pair. Anyway Moving on...
School was easy for me. I was inspired by grandfather, who was a Doctor, May He Rest In Peace....to be a doctor. I wanted that more than anything. My dad and my uncle would always say they would make sure I became a Doctor. So I was convinced I was going to be one, My Uncle even referred to me as Dr....
Well, In my Eleventh grade, My father decided it was time to pass away...ok jokes aside. We lost my father, It was October, yeah my birth Month. October 7 to be specific...My Youngest brother was in 2nd grade and only 7 at the time. The day we laid my father to rest, I realized I just put my dreams in that casket. There was no way I was becoming a Dr, I needed be to an accountant.
I missed the entire first term of my grade 12 because we had to do some traditional stuff and had to travel to some island where my parents came from. These people didn't understand how important grade 12, was...
When we came back, I made myself catch up with the rest of the class on my own. I studied every free minute I had. Then, like a light bulb...something in my head came on and made me realize my passion was Engineering. I understood Mathematics, and AddMa...the really advanced level Math, easily. I was fixing electronics at home too.
Ok....skip skip...
After graduating top of my class, I received a scholarship to study Engineering.
